Duplex Steel Screws consist of a balanced mixture of austenite and ferrite phases, and they usually comprise chromium (19–23%), nickel (4–6%), molybdenum (2–3%), and nitrogen for better strength and corrosion resistance. Such dual-phase microstructure gives these fasteners very high tensile strength, excellent toughness as well as superior resistance to stress-corrosion cracking. The screws provide an enhanced yield strength level as compared to normal stainless steels. Moreover, they are capable of maintaining their integrity under high-pressure and high-temperature situations, thus allowing them to be used for reliable fastening in a hostile environment such as that which contains chlorides, chemicals, and seawater.
